3 awesome apps for the busy accounting professional
April 15, 2015

In this day and age, we spend a lot of time on our mobile devices. Of course, accounting professionals are far too busy to spend the entire work day on their smartphones or tablets enjoying the latest game or refreshing a social media feed. Now that there are applications for gadgets to streamline accounting proceedings, there are ways that your smart devices can help you with the rest of your job.

Having everything on one screen not only makes completing daily tasks much easier, but it cuts down on time switching between computers and mobile gadgets. Here are three applications that will help even the busiest accountants keep all of their ducks in a row.

1. Evernote
Evernote is a nifty little app that allows users to take notes on any device and access it anywhere there's an Internet connection. If you don't like to take your work computer home with you, or it's not the portable kind, Evernote allows you to access documents, pictures and voice recordings anywhere else, as long as the login information is the same. CompanionLink noted that the app also helps employees collaborate with each other, which is definitely a plus in the office or elsewhere.

2. Dropbox
Much like Evernote, Dropbox is an app that can be used from a variety of locations. This is a file storing app that syncs all mobile devices together, allowing access to documents and pictures from virtually any location. PCMag reported that it's an easy way to share information with someone else, as long as they have the links and the files remain in the Dropbox folder itself. Gone are the days of worrying if you've emailed yourself presentations or files, as they're always in Dropbox.

3. Things
While the name certainly is vague, Things is an app that upgrades the common to-do list into a smart task management system. Things assigns priorities, context and time allotted for duties in the app. You can search for specific items on the list and set them on a schedule, complete with reminders to make sure they're done on time, CompanionLink noted. Now you don't need to keep a list of items to get done in a day, Things will help you stay on track and make the day go much more smoothly.

With these applications, accountants will be saving time hand over fist. No longer will you need to rummage in a bag for a task list or a thumb drive with important documents. Let your smartphone or tablet take care of some of the workload so you can get down to brass taxes.
