The latest edition of the Sage Business Index polled 10,861 small and medium-sized businesses across 15 countries – US, Canada, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, France, UK, Ireland, Spain, Portugal, Poland, South Africa, Malaysia, Singapore and Brazil over a two week period in September 2012. Businesses were asked a range of questions regarding such issues as business confidence and outlook, how they feel about the global and local economies and what challenges they currently face.

Sage Business Index of 2012 is now in its third run providing a global measure of confidence across small and medium sized businesses (SMBs) in the US, Canada, UK, Germany, Austria, France, Spain, South Africa, Malaysia and Singapore. We first carried out the Index in February 2011 with a follow up in September of 2011, so with the addition of the most recent results illustrated in our interactive Infographic 2012, we now have a year’s worth of insight into the pressures and challenges faced by SMB communities around the world.

Sage Business Index, September 2011 – overview from Guy Berruyer, Chief Executive
The Sage Business Index — International Business Insights is a worldwide study of small to medium sized businesses looking at business confidence, opinions on the economy, attitudes on their country as a place to do business, views on the role of government as well as the challenges they face. The study takes place twice per year, with the first of its kind occurring in February 2011.
This edition of the Sage Business Index has been extended to include insight from South Africa, Austria, Malaysia and Singapore; on top of the UK, France, Germany, Spain, the United States and Canada who were surveyed last time, with an overall sample size of 10,006 businesses. Depth has been added to the questions and important areas such as government legislation have been explored further. (less info)
Sage Business Index February 2011 – overview from Guy Berruyer, Chief Executive
The Sage Business Index 2011 — International Small Business Insights report (February 2011) contains the views and recommendations of 6,455 small businesses across Germany, France, UK, Canada, Spain and the USA. During a two month period between November and December 2010, those businesses were asked a range of questions regarding such issues as current business confidence both in their own market and globally, how should Government help them, what challenges they face as a business in 2011 and where they see a role for the internet, online software and mobile technology in helping them do business in the future.
